From a community theater background in Australia to a respected poet and
community organizer in the US, Ratsack came to Atlanta's burgeoning poetry
and music scene in 2000 where he developed his unique style and become
known for adding comic relief to an otherwise fairly seriously charged genre.
He was selected twice for HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam” series, and began
performing around the country as a featured artist within the spoken word
circuit.
In 2008 Ratsack created a full-length one-man show, “Love Lies, A Seriously
Silly Soliloquy,” to expand the entertainment value of his work and allow it to
stretch beyond the boundaries of the spoken word categorization. Veteran
Atlanta radio personality, Griff aka Griffy2Trillion‘s said of the show, “Ratsack
takes you on a ride that you would be glad to wait in a 4 hour line to go again
on. Brilliant! Sharp and OVER Clever. He will win a Tony (Award) for certain."
Ratsack's "first home" is a small seaside village in Australia where he grew
up in a tightly knit community. He has traveled the world, from the Pacific
Islands, to Asia, Europe, Mexico and across the United States to study the
inner workings of the ancient village. In Atlanta he created his own program
through Youth Empowerment America to challenge, inspire and empower
youth. As a speaker or consultant he
espouses the benefits of building stronger neighborhoods and communities
and maintains that a well organized regular open mic event can be used as a
very effective community organizing tool within a neighborhood or campus.
